What is Life Coaching?
Life Coaching is a professional relationship between the coach and their client. If you have a goal you wish to attain but haven’t been able to do it alone a life coach could help guide you. A coach listens carefully to your desires which are accomplished by asking a series of questions that bring clarity to the exact goal you want to attain. Homework and fieldwork is used to take small steps to reach the goal. A life coach is not a therapist. A life coach works primarily in the present circumstance and looks toward helping you attain your goal in the near future.
Why would I see a Life Coach?
Sometimes in our lives we may face a challenge that we have a difficult time finding a solution for. A goal you desire for yourself but you just don’t know how to approach it. Together we can design a plan to attain your goals.
How often do I see the coach and how long will it take to reach my goals?
We would work on a weekly basis in one hour sessions. The average amount of time varies, but usually 3 months or 12 sessions is the norm.
What is a sacred circle?
At Lakota Moon we gather in a circle to create a community experience. We can study a book in our circles, learn how to meditate for relaxation and health, or express ourselves through our life experiences. In this way we create a small tribe or community to help support us in our lives.
Why would I want to join a circle?
If you haven’t belonged to a circle of women it is a wonderful experience. We learn many things about ourselves and others sitting in our circles. We can begin to see that we are all sisters in this world and we can help and support each other. This gives us more confidence in our own lives. It offers a feeling of community and support that is hard to find in the world we live in.
Do I need experience in art to take a class?
No experience is needed. We welcome anyone especially those who may have some fear about creating art to come and experience the joy of creativity in a safe place with gentle teachers.
What is a talking stick?
The talking stick is a decorated piece of wood that we pass around to the members of the circle. The person that is holding the stick is the only person allowed to speak while the others members listen intently.
What does sacred circle mean?
It is a group of women that come into the circle with the intention of keeping an open mind and heart. When we are in the circle we respect all members of the group and we use a talking stick to listen intently to the person who is talking. We also have a rule that everything said in our circle is confidential and is not spoken outside of the circle. This is our meaning of the word sacred.
What is meaningful art?
By meaningful art, we intend to create art with some meaning to it. For example if we are creating a mosaic heart we will bring the intention of our own hearts into the class. Ideas like, what is in our own hearts and how to be conscious of this as we are creating the project. We are more interested in the personal process in the creation of art than the making of a masterpiece. We like to use our circle to set the intention for the art we will create. We will sit together in the circle with a cup of tea and discuss the process before we begin. It is a lovely way to get calm to have a fun experience together.
I am nervous about joining a circle. Will I have to talk?
We know that many people feel anxious when trying something new. We welcome you. If you feel that you do not wish to speak we respect your silence. When the sick is passed to you just hold it a moment and then pass it on. We will always ask if anyone has anything else to say before we close our circle.
What is Meditation and what are the benefits
Meditation is a way of quieting the mind. There are many ways to meditate. There is no right or wrong way to meditate and we try many ways to help take the mystique out of it. We can meditate sipping on a cup of tea or listening to quiet music. Some meditations can be guided by someone leading the group or even a walking meditation when you become mindful of each step you take. Sometimes just doodling on paper while listening to music can quiet your mind. We also see creating art as a way of meditating. Meditation is a powerful tool to use for your health. Many doctors and therapists recommend meditation as an aid to reduce stress and to fight depression. Meditation helps the brain to feel happier and causes a sense of well-being. It enables us to have more control over negative emotions as we use mindfulness in our lives.
Why is it important for women and girls to have a community of support?
We see that the media, the workplace, school and many social functions do not foster a place of self-exploration and empowerment. We can become exhausted with all of the demands that are heaped upon us. We hope that when entering Lakota Moon you will see smiling faces and warm hearts that help fill the need for comfort and a sense of community in todays world. A place to breath, express yourself and possibility leave feeling a little more confident in your life.
How many people would be in a circle or an art class?
We like to keep our classes small. Approximately 8-10 people.
Do you teach private art classes
Yes, we can if we can fit it into our schedule. We do encourage our small group classes for the feeling of community that it offers.
